Ordering nine prints the total cost, including taxes is around £15, since I always print all my own stuff at 16×12 now. That way if I have a high priority image that needs printing, I always have a few images that I can throw in with the order to help ameliorate the postage costs. I usually try to have a dozen or so very low priority images that I would like a print from ready to go. DSCL are actually incredibly cheap, but they do outstanding work, and I think that a lot of local places here in the UK that advertise printing actually sub out to them. I know it is not quite as convenient as having the printer at home, but it is a damn sight more cost effective. Royal Mail still does saturday deliveries as standard too, and I have had prints ordered on friday arrive on the saturday. They normally ship same day if you upload before 13:00, and so far using the standard Royal Mail delivery they have always arrived next day. Even with the postage on a single print it would be cheaper to send it out to the lab. The lab that I use DS Colour Labs in Manchester charges only £1.15 for either A3 or 16×12 standard prints.
On top of that you still have to buy the printer, which is close to £400 over here including VAT.

The Pro 100 is a little cheaper per unit area in ink, but an A3 or 16×12 print will still work out at close to £5 (A3 is twice the area of A4).

All in it costs me about £2.50 for a full sized A4 print. I have a Canon Pixma MG5150 which is an A4 combi device, and it does pretty good photo prints all the same, at least using OEM ink and quality paper. Here in the UK, where we don't regularly get good deals on either the printers themselves, or the consumables, sending out to a lab for C-Type prints really makes a lot of sense.

I do have a printer port on my computer (had to buy and install it). I'd like it to be wireless (wifi) and wired but it doesn't have to work on a network. It doesn't have to be inkjet if dye sublimation or some other technology is better. Unless it's unavoidable, I'd prefer one that doesn't cost a fortune to feed. I already have a separate scanner and an old laser printer for general printing so I'm fine with a printer dedicated to photos. I doubt I'll need larger than 8x10 even if I go pro. I might want to use this commercially someday soon but it's a home printer for now (but I want prints that are commercially viable). What is the best printer for photos? Here are some parameters that will help in answering: Besides that it's getting harder and harder to find toner for it. I have a Canon MP970 now but it's never been the same since I moved (some cartridges spewed ink everywhere because of the altitude/pressure change). All of these "what is the best printer" threads are two years old or more, some MUCH older so I was hoping for an update.
